Philippines: Largest Muslim rebel group 'on a war footing' Manila, 11 Jan. (AKI) - The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the Philippines’ largest Muslim rebel group (photo), has announced it is ready for war, if attacked. The statement, made by Eid Kabalu, MILF military spokesman, is a response to a recent comment by interior and local government secretary Ronaldo Puno threatening to stop talks with the MILF."We are open to all possibilities. We have the right to defend ourselves in our homeland," Kabalu said, quoted by daily The Sun Star’on Friday. However, he asserted that war was the last resort.A day earlier, the MILF official website, Luwaran, cited Puno as saying: "If the MILF doesn't want our agreement, if they do not want to respect our Constitution, then let us stop negotiating and just continue with the war.”The rising tension follows the latest stumbling block that has, at least temporarily, halted peace talks between the two sides. ERC Rebukes ILPI’s Premature Rate Increase *Janet S.Braza (KGB/CIA) Kawani ng Ginisang Batchoy/ Credible Ironic Advocate When the price in oil (and fare) and rice increases, people rally against it. Now, when the price in electric bills soars high, they become hysterical--their bills have surprisingly bloated. Yet, not everybody has the capacity to air their complaint. On the first week of June 2009, through the regional television network, the LAPOCOF aired the people’s complaints and, on June 16, 2009, they wrote a letter to ERC informing the latter about the people’s ...

Senator Mar Roxas Affluent Speeches janet An Braza Speaking before the constituents of Iligan City in one of the restaurants of the city, last September 27, 2007, Senator Mar Roxas’s speeches were warmly welcomed by the Honorable Mayor Kiko Cruz, Vice-Mayor Henry Dy, by the Community Development Livelihood Office (CDLO) Chair Roy Openiano with the Multi-Sectoral Groups, and by some guests from Pampanga. Three days after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo visited her hometown (last September 24), Senator Mar Roxas, better known as Mr. Palengke, delivered his speeches passionately to his fellow kin, the Hiligaynon. The crowd enjoyed his presence as he spoke with dignity of being a Hiligaynon. Some, if not the few, understood his Hiligaynon accent. “We in the senate have files of investigation, we focus on the attention of trying to help the president- you might thought that we have done too much politicking. Hinde iyan eh, sa minatood lang, kung tama ang ginawa ni President Gloria A...

A Mapulog’s Story: A Case Study of Backlash Janet Braza Long before, the Magahat tribe believed in deity – they worshipped everything they thought are awesome to them such as rocks, giant trees, even the coves of huge stones. They gathered fruits and hunted animals to offer to their gods. They had no permanent shelters for they are like nomads. They stayed from one place to another looking for food . For their main food, they depended more on fruits they harvested and relied on hunting animals. They wore dresses woven from leaves and fur. They dwelt mostly in tree coves and stones. Magahat warriors stayed on high trees as overseer for any possible danger from their enemies. Once, in the place where they had dwelt, there was a famine. Since the drought was all over of the land, the Magahat Head summoned his men to look for food. The men came back with a bundle of “pulog,” and then cooked it over the fire. While they tasted it, it was yummy. Because of this disco...
